What started as a request for unique bisque developed into a company known for innovative ceramic products. In 1999, Alicia Toal asked her husband, DJ, to find contemporary bisque shapes for her paint-your-own-pottery studio in Charlotte, NC. The popularity of contemporary ceramic studios was rapidly growing and vendors were overwhelmed by the demand for simple functional shapes. Upon purchasing a container of Bisque from Italy, DJ found the ideal spot to warehouse his inventory - the barn in his backyard. Sherry Purser had just moved to the southeast from California and was hired as Bisque Imports' first employee. Sherry thought that working in a barn was normal in North Carolina - so she was perfect for BI.

Keeping Track of our inventory is an important task and Sherry is the best! Having been with Bisque Imports since its inception in 1999, Sherry knows what works best for our customers and is dedicated to keeping inventory levels at their peak.

Our shapes were an immediate hit with local and regional studio owners. DJ enjoyed his new endeavor so much that he quit his day job and started working full-time on Bisque Imports. One year later we moved the company to Belmont - an historic textile town just outside of Charlotte. The development of our website, unique shapes and quick order turnaround helped us to grow quickly. This growth afforded us the opportunity to be the first bisque supplier to implement 10% shipping rates to any location in the USA. See our shipping policies.

Managing the Daily Operations of a growing company like Bisque Imports is a big job. Spencer ensures that the BI Crew has what they need to efficiently and effectively provide the best products and services to our customers.

Warehousing and Shipping our wide range of products keeps Jerry, our Warehouse Manager, and his crew on their toes. They pack and ship each order with care and precision within 24-48 hours. Our recycled (and recyclable) packaging helps them to send your product in a Green manner while effectively reducing the opportunity for breakage. Whether it is a big or small order - we will go beyond the norm to make sure you are satisfied with our packaging and delivery services. Please call us with any special delivery or order requests. We have long since outgrown the barn, but bisque is still the primary focus at Bisque Imports. Our home is now an 80,000 sq ft former textile mill which houses our offices and thousands of bisque shapes including elegant, functional pieces, home decor, garden accents, figurines, bisque beads, Tag-Alongs, Mighty Tots, Speranza, Terra Cotta Bisque and more. In 2006, the company introduced Bisque Imports Warm Glass - a division that offers tools and supplies for fusing and forming art glass. Our understanding of the contemporary ceramics market helped the art of Warm Glass make a successful introduction into studios.

New Ideas are embraced daily in our Marketing Department. By staying ahead of trends and working to consistently provide our customers with innovative new products, we are able to keep you at the forefront of the fired and creative arts industry.
