Cleaning The Glass - After the kiln has worked its magic, be sure to wait until it has reached room temperature prior to opening the lid. After removing the glass from the kiln, clean the fiber paper off of the back of fused pieces. Then, use an abrasive sanding ribbon to smooth the back and the edges of the glass.

Slumping The Glass - Glass slumping is shaping glass into the form of a mold and generally takes place at 1200-1300F / 679-704C / Cone 019. Be sure that the fused glass is cleaned and dry before slumping. To avoid cracking or uneven slumping it is important to drill holes in any bisque shape that you use for this process. The number of holes that should be drilled in the bisque is determined by its size. Refer to the table in the Warm Glass catalog on page 20 that indicates the appropriate number of holes. Our molds are pre-drilled for ideal slumping.

Finishing The Glass - After then glass has been fused and slumped, touch up any rough areas with the abrasive sanding ribbon and clean the glass again to remove any residue. You may choose to sign your work with a Pebeo marker for a nice finishing touch! Follow instructions on Pebeo marker to set the color.
