Product Description:
Get the right tools for firing glazed bisque ware at your pottery painting studio! The 60mm 3-Point Tripod Stilt is a necessity because it will be the right fit for many regularly-shaped ceramic pieces in your studio like dishes, large mugs, plates, and more!
For those new to kiln work, kiln stilts are used for glazed, “low-fire” or earthenware firings to prevent the glaze from adhering to the kiln itself. Never allow a glaze piece to lie directly onto the kiln surface, as it will get stuck there!
Stilts can be used in “high-fire” firings like that of stoneware, but they are not recommended for such high heats because the metal points can bend. So, if you absolutely need to fire a piece in high-heat on stilts, make sure you use multiple pointed stilts, and do not fire heavy objects on stilts at that temperature.
Kiln stilts should be chosen based on the size of the bisque ware being fired as well as the complexity of its shape. Uncommon or irregular shapes should be fired on multi-point or even bar stilts. More simple ceramic ware like plates, dishes, and mugs should be stilted with a 3-point stilt with the points just inside the foot ring or lip of the bottom. Do not use an undersized stilt. If a plate is five inches across, use a minimum of a three to four inch stilt, not anything smaller. If you use a stilt that is too small, the piece can tilt or slide into other pieces!
