Product Description:
While painting and decorating pottery, the artist does not need to be limited to the original surface of the bisque! Mayco’s SG-501 Sculpting Medium gives the craftsperson an opportunity to create depth and dimension onto a piece. The Sculpting Medium produces a white, raised surface up to ⅛” that can be tinted and glazed to the creator’s desire.
Use a stencil to ensure nice, clean lines on the piece, and layer the Sculpting Medium with a squeegee, sponge, or a brush. If the medium is left thin, it creates a translucent effect with the underling glaze peeking through. Or, perhaps, hand draw shapes and lines with the Sculpting Medium to create depth and shadow that will accentuate the vision of the piece!
Sculpting Medium has the consistency of condensed milk, and it’s quite simple to work with. It dries quickly, and it can be applied directly onto the bisque or on top of an unfired glaze. The fired finish of the Sculpting Medium is a bit course and can have rough edges, but a layer of clear or colored glaze will help to smooth out these sharp edges. The firing range is 05/06 for this product, and it will not perform at higher temperatures. Finally, this product is food safe and non-toxic, but it is not recommended for dinnerware due to surface characteristics.
