Wax resist makes your life much easier! Use to mask areas where you don't want any glaze! Fire to cone 06 then clear glaze and fire again. Pretty awesome right?
Wax Resist is used to repel glaze from the surface beneath it. Protect previous design work or keep areas of the surface free from glaze - it fires out and leaves the surface beneath as it was prior to firing. It can be applied to unglazed greenware or bisque or it can be applied over previously applied, unfired color. It can be applied with a brush, sponge or spattered. Each method allows the artist to expand the options in the decorating process.
Apply one generous coat of Wax Resist. Even a thin coat will repel color. Do not apply additional coats as they will not adhere to the first layer; it will bead up on the first coat. Once a coat of Wax Resist is applied it can only be removed by firing. Should "beads" of color fom on top of the wax be sure to remove them by gently wiping using a clean, damp sponge. Any glaze left on the wax will adhere to the surface after firing. Use an old brush - or use brush conditioner before dipping into the wax. If Wax Resist should dry in the brush it can be removed using mineral spirits.
