Selecting Your Mold by Bisque Imports Select Your Mold Select which molds you will slump into prior to beginning your fusing project so that you will work on the glass blank that is the appropriate size and shape. If you slump with glass that is too big for the mold it will drape over the edge, causing the glass to seize to the mold, thus ruining the mold and glass. The glass should be no more than 1/4 inch larger than the mold. Refer to the range guidelines in our catalog to select the appropriate sized glass blank for your desired mold. Apply primer to the slump mold or bisque shape and let dry completely before slumping the fused glass. Prime Your Mold It is necessary to apply mold primer to any mold or bisque shape that you will use as a mold. Primer keeps glass from sticking to the mold just as kiln wash keeps glazed potery from sticking to the kiln shelves; hoever the two are not interchangeable. Hotline Primo Primer (#SP-403, SP-404) is specifically designed for working with glass. A large brush is ideal for applying mold primer - a large fan brush works well. Slumping glass while the primer is still wet can cause the piece to develop bubbles as the primer dries during firing. | To view our selection of glass molds, click here. | |
